Very happy to announce that 'Aviary Jackson' will be released on CD by the UK indie label Folkwit Records in June.  Folkwit is home to many really wonderful artists, among them Orwell, Louise Le May, and Testbild! (the exclamation point is part of the name, although I'd probably add it anyway).  I'm absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Folkwit roster.  

'Aviary Jackson' named 'Best Album of 2009' by the wonderful Eppy Gibbon podcast show (UK).  "The first full-length release by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Daniel Carlson, is a near-perfect concoction, ten tracks that could be described as a combination of wonderfully arranged chamber pop and quirky psychedelia. The songwriting is absolutely delightful throughout, with each individual track impressing and stirring the emotions, but the overall effect of the album is even greater than that. It really makes me feel that I've gone on a journey every time I hear it. Es gibt sie also doch noch, Musiker, die in grösseren Zusammenhängen denken und auch komponieren. «Aviary jackson», das dritte Album von Daniel Carlson offeriert nach den beiden EPs « Somnar» (2001) und «Now» (2004) nicht nur zehn nett aneinander gereihte Songs. Die einzelnen Songs offenbaren einen inneren Zusammenhang, Entwicklung aber auch Brüche. Der geneigte Hörer wird dabei auf eine Reise durch unterschiedliche Schattierung von Nachdenklichkeit geführt. Der leise Auftakt «The innocents» entwickelt gegen Schluss eine fast majestätische Dramatik. «Ending» ist eine Prise dunkler, verfeinert mit Gitarren, die auch aus einem Ennio-Morricone-Film stammen könnten. Der in Chicago aufgewachsene Carlson setzt bei beiden Songs Streicher zur optimalen emotionalen Unterstützung ein. Im dritten Song ist es ein Piano, das dominiert, erneut unterstützt von Streichern. Carlson setzt die Streicher immer sehr songdienlich ein. «Downtown again» schafft daraufhin durch den fast tanzbaren Beat einen ersten Kontrast. «Landlocked» klingt anschliessend verträumt und beinahe abgehoben, wie auch «Conviction». Hier bricht die Melancholie etwas auf. «Monday» offeriert daraufhin eleganten Softpop. Das instrumentale «Aviary» gleitet nach einem längeren, folkigen Intro wieder in beatige Gewässer. Und zum Abschluss gibt es noch einen Hauch Sehnsucht mit «Another week» (Even if it’s always raining, it’s alright with us). Für Fans der Pearlfishers und Louis Philippe.
