Greetings from sunny (not really) Amsterdam. Just spent a lovely
day with Arnd Ziegler of Bremen Radio 4. I was able to hand him a finished
track from the new record, which he played last night on his excellent Zeiglers
wunderbare Welt des Pop program. A thrill to hear it - thanks Arnie.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night. It was a really nice evening (at least until 10:30 - more on that below) and great to see all of your smiling faces. I thought the show went well and was thrilled with my accompanists, it makes playing these songs new again every time. I tried to mix things up a bit, playing a few older things for the first time and letting go of some things I felt like people might have heard enough of. One of the songs from "Somnar" ('You're The Same') was one I hadn't played since recording it eight years ago and I thought it came across well. Two others ('Before I Pay' and 'Not My Kind [Ego]') are songs I wrote with my old friend Brook Ziporyn a number of years ago and had never played (or sung!) out. Anyway, if felt great from the stage and I'm looking forward to playing out more this year.
Thanks to Peter Yeadon for sending me the photos.
The bad news was that the NYPD shut down the club just after my set, just two songs into Jan Bell's show. Something to do with underage drinking, but it was really unfortunate that this came at the expense of Falconworks. In a matter of minutes, the club was emptied and we all found ourselves out on Avenue B with the snow falling. It was all a bit surreal.

I'll be playing the annual benefit for Falconworks Artists
Group on Friday, February 29, details (including other acts) TBA. It's my first show since last February. I imagine we'll be playing a mix of older material, songs from the new (in progress) record, and a few oddball things. Nervous, but really looking forward to it.
The band is the usual excellent (there's an understatement!) crew - Tom Curiano on drums,
Gerald Menke on pedal steel, Bennett Paster on keyboards, and Gary Wang on bass. Genevieve will also be joining us, but won't join us until the actual show. But
last night's rehearsal went well.

Anyone reading this should immediately check out the new record by David Hull. This is a collection of fantastic songs, beautifully produced by my good friend Tom Curiano and featuring the lovely Katia Bassanini on vocals. David is and Englishman currently living in Berlin, but is coming to New York next month for a sort of mini tour. I'll be playing bass with Tom and David on some of these dates and am really excited about it.

Writing from Amsterdam, just back from a whirlwind visit with Arnd
Zeigler of Radio 4 in Bremen, Germany. Arnd had stumbled across "Now" somewhere online and has been playing it on his afternoon show. After a few emails, he invited me to come and see him in Bremen if I was in the area. Had a great time listening to all sorts of new (to me) music and
just hanging out. There are amazing music people everywhere!

After much delay, I'm finally beginning work on the new record. I've got a collection of material to
start with, most of it new, but a few accumulated from the infrequent live shows I've been playing over the last few years. I'm really excited to get started, it's been too long.
Writing and working on demos at home is fine, but it's time to start
working with other people, breathing some life in the songs.
